 Ephesus was an ancient Greek city and important centre for Early Christianity from the AD 50s onwards as amongst other things Paul the Apostle resided there. Close to the Ephesus archaeological site, upon mount Koressos (Bülbüldağı) is the house purported to be the last home of Mary, mother of Jesus.
The House of the Virgin Mary is now a Catholic and Muslim shrine and is open to tourists. Ephesus is near modern day Selcuk in the province of Izmir, making it a great day trip location from destinations such as Kuşadası, Çeşme and Bodrum.
